Pixel Town v0.1: The Features

[UPDATE @ 01/01/2008 5:45PM UTC+2: I'm drowning in work, and have a test this Thursday, so expect delays with Pixel Town :???: ]

Pixel Town is a virtual world run off Debbo1 and the official Habbo files, with several exclusive features. I finally managed to get it up and running as it should, and version 0.1 should be complete by tomorrow (or by monday). Here are the features:

  1. The most successful private server for unofficial Habbo hotels []

Goodbye for now, my friends.

As my previous post said, I will be leaving the metaverse for now, due to real life issues.1 It’s become too big for me to even have one silent hour for myself, even on Habbo. Sorry guys for leaving, though I will come back the minute my first life is balanced, and I will have some moments of peace thinking, my next year in school is safe :) . I would like to say a few things about Vint2, before I leave:

Vint, I want you to have the car. (Nah, just kidding! ;) )

Vint, thank you for being such a wonderful friend from the main grid, even if we’re remote in both lives in terms of location3 and age4 :) . I thank you for all the help you gave me, the kindness and friendliness, and especially, for being so great! ;) .Until we meet again! ;)

  1. AKA, school. School SUCKS! []
  2. Vint Falken, see her website over here. []
  3. Vint is on the main grid virtually, and from Belgium physically. []
  4. Vint is an adult, while I am a teenager ;) []

Second life placed on hold due to first life complications

I’m doing terribly this school year, all due to my “web life” and lack of organization skills (currently). And so, I am suspending my second life (all, not just my Second Life account. However, it will not be cancelled or suspended, as I still have an ongoing premium plan. I’ll look into giving my land tier to someone…), in order to get my first life stabilized as it should be. The 9th grade is the big step between middle school and high school, and such, I need to get perfect (or at least very good) grades to allow me to be placed in my wanted class next year, or even make it to the next year. :???:

As of such, projects including DuoGrid will be placed on hold, and will be continued along the way. Sorry… :???:

Part 1 of the ConQuest Prologue called “Jennifer”, has been released!

In the prologue you read about, well, what’s going to be! ;)Click here to read it now!

The new Second Life search — now for your browser too!

I recently searched for a search plugin for Firefox which searches for stuff in the new Second Life Search. I was amazed to see the only one, was using Google for the Second Life sites (main, blog, JIRA, etc.). So, I looked up that old OpenSearch guide once again, and compiled my own. I sneaked the search URL from the client, and now it does the exact (except for the specific-for selection box) actions the new inworld search does. While I was at it, I found an exploit and managed to view Vint Falken’s profile, through the “real” (the one with Picks, Interests, etc.) profile viewer! Don’t tell about this though, I wanna see you adults’ profiles! :P .

To install the new search engine, click here, or go to this page, and follow the instructions for your browser.

I’ll send an email to Linden soon to point this out, and post it on the official wiki as well. Please, spread the word! And don’t mind hotlinking, the file is barely 1kb, so, it will need 10,000,000 clicks to hit my bandwidth limit!

Reality check: YEAH!

I recently sent OnRez a large, and formal request, to make a version for the teen grid. I got turned down once they were SL Boutique since I didn’t explain it right, but now, that 11+ lines formal email worked! I just received a reply from one of their (support team) technicians, saying she forwarded the request, and agrees with my idea — I guess Second Lounge will have commerce support after all?1 ;) .

By the way, if you are a pretty good web developer, either code-wise or graphic-wise, I need your help! Contact me at Smiley[at]DuoGrid[dot]com.

  1. I planned on it, using Katharine Berry’s TSL Emporium code, after she closed it down, but prepared several offers if she says no, which she did. So, YIP YIP HARRAH! []

Vint ruthed and Sho laughs? Vint, you got rights!

UPDATE @ 03:10 UTC+2 10th of December: Vint, i’m not mad at you! It’s OK! It just came to me all of a sudden back then ‘^_^. I tend to react badly to big, sudden changes…

UPDATE @ 21:28 UTC+2: Way to go, Vint! I just recieved a reply from Vint saying this was a joke. So, I just embarrassed myself in front of, well, the metaverse! >.>

Just like real life photos, you have rights associated to your virtual self. Explained in this post on News.com, you have the same rights you have when you’re featured in an unpleasant picture or video. So, you can take it down, in a SNAP!. Here’s the story:

Vint got ruthed in the opening of SLart at the Cannery: A Different Light, and Sho took the snapshot and uploaded it to Flickr. As much as I kinda like it, Vint didn’t, and asked Sho kindly to take it down. Sho refused meanfully, and even wrote a blog post, dedicated to the photo, here. Vint found a “Nipplegate” photo of Sho, which I will post right in a second, and the war between the two began. As a friend of Vint’s, i’m on her side, banning SLart at the Cannery from making a teen grid appearance through DuoGrid, making them go through a painful, up-to-6-months process involving age verification, simulator set up, permission from Linden, and inworld advertising, until they settle this.

Shoshana Epsilon, with a mean, yet awfully funny bug.

Haha, actually looks as if Sho said “Oops, my boob fell, wanna get funky??” :D

Oh, and don’t give me that “Mature” crap, virtual “art” is PG13 or else no user-created animations would exist on our grid.

Noob Camp BETA soon launching

UPDATE @ 4:34PM: Oh, everything looks OK in the front end part… Must be my lousy back end configuration…

UPDATE @ 4:31PM: Argh, resource bugs are starting to appear — I thought I just fixed it!

I’ve just finished installing the structures, although due to complications, the /guide/???? and /tutorial/???? parts will not be in the initial release. Sorry…

Here’s the Main Page, but don’t say any comments yet, graphical design is still in progress — behind the scenes — and the logo is just experimental. Thought i’d go “minimalistic” on this one…

Can’t find decent software for Noob Camp — MediaWiki again?

I can’t find a decently designed and programmed piece of software anywhere for Noob Camp. Looking back at WikiMedia projects, the Second Life Wiki, my old Unofficial Teen Second Life Wiki, and DuoGrid, I see MediaWiki is my answer to all. I mean, the site was about to be a fully-working database for guides, tutorials, FAQs, video tuts (Torley’s will be featured first!), and s’more content… So, I may look into using MediaWiki again, and “linking” the two Wikis together (DuoGrid and Noob Camp) to do some reference of “This guide is for a product listed on DuoGrid/the Second Life Wiki >>”, and “This product has a guide on Noob Camp >>” on DuoGrid and Second Life Wiki. I think the Lindens will thank me for this, some day! :) .

If you’re wondering if it’ll be like DuoGrid, with absolutely NO registrations, you’re damn right. MediaWiki 1.6.10 (My–Vint’s server supports only PHP4 and backwards. Vint, get your hosting company to upgrade already! MediaWiki has hit 1.11! :???: ) has some crappy anti-spam protection, making my TSL Wiki filled with spam users and content in, well, the few first weeks. Plus, I don’t want to chase people writing tutorials badly and formatting them badly, breaking the rules, etc., so, why not do all the posting myself? ;) .

Noob Camp will have the URL announced later, plus s’more. Here’s the full list:

apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/guide/{GUIDE NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/tutorial/{TUTORIAL NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/vtutorial/{VIDEO TUTORIAL NAME}

I know the URLs are long, but I promise you, duogrid.com/noobcamp:(guide/tutorial/vtutorial):(name) will link the same as the above URLs. Still, for hot-linking, use the “special” URLs.

DuoGrid changing application locations

As a part of my new plan to change URLs of DuoGrid web applications, new (and old) applications will now shift to a new URL (except the DuoGrid database, that stays at duogrid.com/NAME). Here are a few examples:

apps.duogrid.com/slounge/discussion/{DISCUSSION ID OR NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/guide/{GUIDE NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/xabbo/region/{REGION NAME}
