I can’t find a decently designed and programmed piece of software anywhere for Noob Camp. Looking back at WikiMedia projects, the Second Life Wiki, my old Unofficial Teen Second Life Wiki, and DuoGrid, I see MediaWiki is my answer to all. I mean, the site was about to be a fully-working database for guides, tutorials, FAQs, video tuts (Torley’s will be featured first!), and s’more content… So, I may look into using MediaWiki again, and “linking” the two Wikis together (DuoGrid and Noob Camp) to do some reference of “This guide is for a product listed on DuoGrid/the Second Life Wiki >>”, and “This product has a guide on Noob Camp >>” on DuoGrid and Second Life Wiki. I think the Lindens will thank me for this, some day!
.
If you’re wondering if it’ll be like DuoGrid, with absolutely NO registrations, you’re damn right. MediaWiki 1.6.10 (My–Vint’s server supports only PHP4 and backwards. Vint, get your hosting company to upgrade already! MediaWiki has hit 1.11!
) has some crappy anti-spam protection, making my TSL Wiki filled with spam users and content in, well, the few first weeks. Plus, I don’t want to chase people writing tutorials badly and formatting them badly, breaking the rules, etc., so, why not do all the posting myself?
.
Noob Camp will have the URL announced later, plus s’more. Here’s the full list:
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/guide/{GUIDE NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/tutorial/{TUTORIAL NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/vtutorial/{VIDEO TUTORIAL NAME}
I know the URLs are long, but I promise you, duogrid.com/noobcamp:(guide/tutorial/vtutorial):(name) will link the same as the above URLs. Still, for hot-linking, use the “special” URLs.
