The new Second Life search — now for your browser too!

I recently searched for a search plugin for Firefox which searches for stuff in the new Second Life Search. I was amazed to see the only one, was using Google for the Second Life sites (main, blog, JIRA, etc.). So, I looked up that old OpenSearch guide once again, and compiled my own. I sneaked the search URL from the client, and now it does the exact (except for the specific-for selection box) actions the new inworld search does. While I was at it, I found an exploit and managed to view Vint Falken’s profile, through the “real” (the one with Picks, Interests, etc.) profile viewer! Don’t tell about this though, I wanna see you adults’ profiles! :P .

To install the new search engine, click here, or go to this page, and follow the instructions for your browser.

I’ll send an email to Linden soon to point this out, and post it on the official wiki as well. Please, spread the word! And don’t mind hotlinking, the file is barely 1kb, so, it will need 10,000,000 clicks to hit my bandwidth limit!

DuoGrid changing application locations

As a part of my new plan to change URLs of DuoGrid web applications, new (and old) applications will now shift to a new URL (except the DuoGrid database, that stays at duogrid.com/NAME). Here are a few examples:

apps.duogrid.com/slounge/discussion/{DISCUSSION ID OR NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/noobcamp/guide/{GUIDE NAME}
apps.duogrid.com/xabbo/region/{REGION NAME}

Xabbo announced — my new platform-building project begins!

Remember Habbo? Now, change the H to a X, add 1,000 custom items, 50 custom features, better connectivity, and change the so-called “hotel” to a “city” and you got Xabbo! I’m currently compiling my own build of Habbo called Xabbo packed with goodies that stupid Sulake forgot to add themselves, and packaging it with afree Webserver-on-USB software so you could run Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Xabbo in a snap.

Plus, I may plan (payed) downloads of pre-built city layouts for Xabbo, but i’m not sure as city-building is hard work. Plus I could never stop the thieves that might buy it and share it immediately :???: .

Xabbo will reside in apps.duogrid.com/xabbo/ as a part of the new DuoGrid Web Applications Program.

I finished the layout for Second Lounge! Sort of…

If you read my blog “daily”, you should know I announced Second Lounge as a future DuoGrid web service to launch in the first quarter of 2008 (hopefully), and currently, I got a very nice layout done! It’s not entirely my work, and I got it off someone that ripped it off Habbo UK, but if I remove logos and copyright text i’m out of danger. Copyright doesn’t involve HTML designs, of course production code is involved, but i’m going to use my own code.

I found this while looking for a Habbo retro running release 18 to power up my virtual pixelated city (that will be released as a pack when done)… I’m currently using release 13, and it sucks! :???: Custom content can’t be installed properly, and game files have to be hosted, so i’m looking for an Israeli server, so I won’t have any internet issues at all.

Oh, and, Vint, if all goes well, I may make a certain room have a certain non-playable character representing a certain Second Life resident I know :D .

Introducing TSL Network

After seeing 2LifePeople is built on Ning, I started reading what “Ning” is. I managed to get a social network created in five minutes, and kept it closed, up ’till now :) . The site is now ready, and open for teen grid registrations! I created it in order to have a (temporary) replacement for TSL Profiles, Katharine Berry’s old service for the teen grid, matching up to SL Profiles, only on the teen grid.

Main griders, you are welcome to check it out, and teen griders wanting to sign up, here’s the link. One or two adult main grid residents will be accepted though, for staff purposes. Don’t start applying!

Second Lounge and Noob Camp — I need your help!

I’m trying to find adequate (fitting, matching, etc.) web apps to run Noob Camp and Second Lounge on. (like the forums system, PhpBB, or the blogging system, WordPress? Those are web apps) I need AJAX-powered web apps for at least Noob Camp, and if possible Second Lounge as well…

I tried some nice little tutorials, including Adobe’s “framework” that, as expected, isn’t easy at all.

If you find a nice little web app for it, be sure to email me at Smiley [at] DuoGrid [dot] com.

SL Talk down due to file corruption

SL Talk has experienced severe file corruption and is now offline. I was about to close SL Talk just now anyway, so it doesn’t matter. Instead, a new website will come online, providing the same services, but with much better performance and tidier code.

In the mean time, you can use discussions.duogrid.com :) .

(Apparently, Vint… You’re not the only one with a sudden file corruption error… The only difference is that, the core files, not theme files, are damaged over here! It’s a toughy to fix…)

Two new DuoGrid projects — coming soon!

I’ve been busy lately working on two new DuoGrid projects, called “Noob Camp” and “Second Lounge”.

  1. Noob Camp is a tutorials and introduction website for new Second Life Residents (”Noobs”, if you don’t know the term ;) ). I plan to use tons of video tutorials on it — mostly Torley’s — , textual tutorials, and open an option for developers to post documentation and quick start guides on it, to make everyone’s Second Life easy and frustration-less ;) . This website will be DuoGrid-compatible, and so will not host M-rated (Mature = 18+) products’ documentation. However, it may be possible later with a Main Grid version.
  2. Second Lounge is a Second Life web portal containing forums, chat, events, places, and more, very similar to SL Talk, yet uses an entire different code base (the current code base for SL Talk is highly complex, which is why we are scraping it and starting over with Second Lounge). Although Second Life will soon have a way to search on-site for inworld content, this service will have free of charge location posting, fast timings, and may have AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML.

These projects will not be ready in a one-three weeks, especially Second Lounge. Expect to see Noob Camp by the end of December 2007 / beginning of January 2008, and Second Lounge in beta testing by the beginning of January 2008 / middle of February/March 2008.

P.S.: Just for fun, you can see the coming soon page of Noob Camp at www.duogrid.com/noobcamp.
