Comparison of “OpenSims”

I have been around the net, looking for “open simulators”, other than the one for Second Life. I found one for World of Warcraft, and one even for Habbo Hotel. Both run very smoothly, especially the World of Warcraft one even with up to 10 people, while playing. Both do basically nothing, but save variables. The World of Warcraft “Ascent” server only saves locations, calculates damage, and sends other objects’ (monsters, players, NPCs [non-playable characters]… etc.) locations and stats. People’s clients do all the physical thinking. Second Life should get that :P .

The Habbo Hotel “Debbo” server, works pretty nicely, and is VERY stable. I’m building a sky city in there, and a single-player mode called “Habbo Hotel: Living in the Metaverse” (Sorry, Dan! :???: ), though the quests part is kinda tricky.

In the end, I see OpenSim still hasn’t reached a nice landmark where it can be used with up to 3,000 people per-realm like the World of Warcraft Ascent server can :???: . Linden should REALLY release the code, or at least optimize it further. Now with Havok 4, they can make regions much bigger, even increase their size by their current size! (current * current = current2). I still haven’t got to that part where i’ll take photos from WoW for my blog logo and Flickr, but I will, soon…

Oh, and did I mention i’m setting up a World of Warcraft server for Israeli players? You’d have to apply for membership though. Sorry! (Plus, no addicted 24-hours-gaming-per-day gamers!).

“World of Warcraft”? GIMME GIMME!!!

(Attention, explanations of server types ahead. Pretty small, but still unnecessary for some people. Skip the following paragraph to read the story)

A friend finally gave me the patches I need to play World of Warcraft on WoWscape, a private server that requires no subscription, so I began on the Funserver first. A “Funserver” (yep, written exactly like that.) is a type of private server that speeds up leveling and gives more items, drastically. For example, you can defeat one (1) basic monster with a fresh level 1 player, and instantly level up to level 5, and see the monster has about 20 items you can loot. CRAZY!. So, I moved to the “Blizz High-Rate” server. That server is just as difficult as Blizzard’s (WoW developer) only with a few perks.

(Ok, story ahead. MY story that is.)

So, I began, and after approximately 10 hours of gameplay (not all together!) during two days, I can say i’m partially addicted. What does that mean? It means i’m kinda addicted, but not enough to go to a WoW rehab class… Really!… No need for an intervention, guys… ANYWAY… The world is H-U-G-E. It’s literally a world. It has two continents, soon adding a third, and the size is even bigger than the main grid (Why yes, I happen to have seen it a while ago with one of my “LibSL accounts”, since teen registration is impossible now. Don’t worry, I got it cleared with the Lindens…). HUGE. Plus, there are lots of people, items, quests, monsters, and a few more types I haven’t seen yet. I chose a Blood Elf Warlock (wanna be evil this time  ), and began playing. I’m now in level 18 with tons of spells and knowledge. I also discovered about 1/10 of my continent, which is very good…

The effects are awesome, and I admit I now know why there are so many addicted gamers. The game is simply awesome. I’d pay 9.99US$/month for it. But i’m not… Because like I said, i’m playing on a private server! :D .

You should try it, but that’ll require buying or getting the main game and expansion from a friend, sacrificing approx. 9GB for gaming, and downloading approx. 2GB (temporary, will replace old files) of patches. But, its worth it! :D .
