Really, who said formatting was good??? I got a ton of problems!Well, yesterday the technician arrived to format my PC¹ , and he started formatting. The PC says “Sector error” when installing Windows XP, we try again with a modified “corp lite” version, and yipee it works. Now, we boot up the computer, and attempt to install the drivers using the drivers folder I backed up. “ERROR: Cannot find compatible driver.” WHAT?? Stupid Windows. So, I look for that plastic black bag with my PC CDs, we install those, and suddenly, the every-10-second-it-freezes bug reappears. We find out it’s my 4-years-and-6-months-old display adapter, and we have to replace it. So, now I can’t render 3D stuff, since we disabled the driver so it would work normally without any freezes. He leaves, and I find out:

• Windows doesn’t have the Hebrew keyboard layout, so I can’t type in Hebrew, just read it. And no, searching for it in Google fails to find anything that fits the real layout. I just need the Microsoft file.
• My DVD drive sometimes reads stuff, sometimes doesn’t, when previously it only failed in writing stuff. But, I knew this was coming - although it survived way shorter than my 8-year-old normal CD-R/RW burner.
• Some stuff don’t work. For example, iTunes claims to be open, when I can’t see or use it. OUCH!
• My Mozilla Firefox backup is useless. I backed up just like Firefox contributors said, the profiles folder, and it turned out worthless. I lost 45~50 Extensions and about 9 Themes. Oh, and don’t forget my 50 Greasemonkey scripts. Ouch
• And, i’m missing some crucial components I never thought i’d need. For example, Windows Media Player is missing, and although I don’t use it, a lot of Israeli sites require it to play music. Plus some others.

So, that’s my story. Oh, and remember, I can’t render stuff as well, so i’ll have to wait for my Mac, as planned, to play The Sims 2 or even see the Second Life world. So… Anybody wanna donate a computer? Or some money for the Mac Fund?

1. I don’t trust the thing to accept my 2-year-old damaged Windows XP install CD and will probably declare tons of errors when I try to install, and i’ll end up at 3:41AM shouting out the window: “WHY?!?!?! WHY ME?!?!?”. Yeahhh…. This is the part where you find out i’m an over-reacting freak [↩]
